Supply chain, retail, marketing and social networking thought leader

Jeff Ashcroft currently is Director, Business Development at SCI Group. He continues to feed the SupplyChainNetwork blog and writes about many things both supply chain and social on his personal blog Social Supply Chain Management . He provides insight on how stakeholders can design, provide, source and implement supply chain systems with integrated social networks to finally gain access to the massive benefits of supply chain synergy consultants have been promising for more than 2 decades. A successful background “in the trenches” of both operations, strategy and systems in consumer goods, third party logistics and major retail supply chains has resulted in a keen and practical sense of how to assist in successful systems design, development, introduction and roll out.

Recognition and social business vision

In May 2010, Jeff was recognized as Social Community Builder of the Year for his work in creating The Social CMO a group of 35 senior marketing minds and practitioners only established in January 2010 that is now one of the Power 150 Marketing sites as measured by Ad Age. The site now has more than 100,000 pageviews a month and the bloggers network more than 500,000 followers. Starting in July 2010 he introduced a weekly #MMchat held every Monday evening which is one of the most active, setting an organized tweetchat record in November 2010 with 2000 tweets by 450 participants creating more than 20 million Twitter impressions in only one hour. TheSocialCMO is one of eight entities which make up the C-Level Social network aimed at creating meaningful social engagement to facilitate functional integration and convergence across all C-Level roles, and then their associated functional areas, including Finance, IT, Purchasing, HR, Supply Chain, Logistics and Chief Executive Officers. The Social CMO Crew is currently completing a book based on the LEADS concept developed by Jeff – Listen, Engage, Activate, Dominate, Social mandate culminating in the emergence of the functionally integrated Social media organization or Smorganization.

Business And Technology Experience

Jeff brings two decades of practical logistics and supply chain experience starting from the warehouse floor up to the Boardrooms of major retail and third party logistics companies. After 15 years with the Hudson’s Bay Company during which time he completed and implemented a complex national logistics and Quick Response systems strategy which resulted in a reduction of 2 million square feet in DC space and $25 million dollars in annual operating expense. In 1993, Jeff recognized the strategic value potential of Third Party Logistics outsourcing and joined the Tibbett & Britten Group as Director of Business Development & Planning where he developed over $3 billion in business including securing and implementing the national distribution and transportation network for Wal-Mart when they entered Canada in 1994. He was also responsible for developing a comprehensive systems strategy for the TBG companies covering all client network strategy, operations, WMS,TMS and replenishment functions.

Following this Jeff then became Vice President & General Manager of Crosslink Distribution Inc. which firm he built from concept to fully operational Efficient Replenishment Supply Chain business with an advanced multi-company end to end case level allocation ECR system utilizing 2 dimensional barcodes in 1995. In 1997, Jeff launched Strategic Logistics Partners providing unique and innovative services to firms on the leading edge of Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Auto-ID and Electronic Commerce. At Strategic Logistics Partners, Ashcroft developed and lead the Supply Chain Network Project® a complex and world leading RFID and supply chain management industry initiative. The SCN Project brought together entire ecosystems of supply chain stakeholders to jointly design and implement end to end supply chain solutions integrating advanced data synchronization, scheduled order management, dynamic route segmentation, geofencing, RFID, GPS and visibility demonstrating working models that generated from 50 to 85% productivity improvements in supply chain functions. Following this success, Jeff then became Vice President, Logistics/Supply Chain at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (Canada), where he was also the PwC Canadian Retail Advisory Leader. In 2007 Jeff returned to the role of Principal Facilitator for the Supply Chain Network Project® and as of June 2012 has now joined SCI Group as Director, Business Development.


Jeff graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. major in English and minor in Psychology. His specialist credentials include a Professional Logistician designation (P Log.) from The Logistics Institute, and status as a Chartered Member of the Institute of Logistics and Transport in UK (CMILT). In addition, Jeff has completed both Basic and Advanced GMP certification for the warehousing and logistics of Finished Goods Pharmaceuticals.

Jeff is also active in charitable endeavors as Founder and Director of WORLD, a relief logistics charity and The Airship Z-Prize to recreate cargo airships for disaster & humanitarian logistics.
